On August 27, 2026, aratama 璞 attended the Dreamina AI Creator Meetup Tokyo, held at Studio Earth at the Tokyo Tower Media Center.

Hosted by Dreamina AI, Hagia Labs, and SideHustle.Works, the creator meetup brought together screenings of AI-powered films, presentations on real-world production workflows and creative projects, creator talks, updates from Dreamina AI and Seedance, and networking sessions.

Studio Earth’s large circular screen also provided an opportunity to experience generative AI filmmaking at a scale far beyond the typical desktop or mobile viewing environment.

Dreamina AI Open Call Selected Works on the Big Screen

The event featured a screening of selected works from the Dreamina AI Open Call, held under the theme “Through the Portal.”

The Open Call invited Japan-based creators to submit short films created with Dreamina AI, with selected works presented on Studio Earth’s large-format screen.

Even when working from the same theme and the same generative AI platform, the selected films differed significantly in visual language, narrative structure, motion design, and the relationship between image and sound.

Watching AI-generated films on a large screen creates a very different experience from viewing them on a computer or smartphone. Fine movement, spatial composition, visual detail, and synchronization with sound become far more pronounced. It was particularly striking to see AI filmmaking expanding beyond short-form social content into work designed for cinematic and large-scale screening environments.

AI Filmmaking Moves into a More Practical Production Phase

One of the most notable aspects of the event was how the conversation around AI filmmaking has moved beyond simply asking what can be generated. The focus is increasingly on how AI can be integrated into real production workflows, how its output can be controlled, and how generated material can ultimately be shaped into a finished creative work.

Jonah Kishiya of GEEK PICTURES / GEEK GARAGE presented examples of workflows that integrate generative AI into actual creative production.

One approach that stood out in particular used a traditional Japanese painting as the starting point, adding three-dimensional, drone-like camera movement and spatial depth with AI to transform the static artwork into a moving cinematic environment.

Rather than simply animating a single image, the workflow preserves the visual language of the original artwork while designing camera position, depth, direction of travel, and spatial relationships to expand the still image into a moving scene.

Examples like this reinforce how AI filmmaking increasingly depends not only on the capabilities of the underlying model, but on production design as a whole — including visual development, camera work, consistency, direction, and editing.

Even when creators use the same generative AI model, the results can differ dramatically depending on the source material, how much control is given to the model, how motion is designed, and where human direction and editorial decisions enter the process.

AI filmmaking appears to be moving from the question of whether moving images can be generated at all toward a more practical phase: integrating AI with established filmmaking techniques and determining how precisely creative intent can be maintained and controlled throughout production.

Creative Process and Decision-Making Behind the Work

Following the Open Call screenings, creator talks offered a closer look at the thinking and production processes behind the work.

Creators shared the ideas behind their projects, challenges encountered during production, and the creative decisions and approaches involved in working with AI. The sessions provided valuable context that is often invisible when viewing only the finished films.

As generative AI becomes more capable, the distinction between works may increasingly come not from the ability to generate compelling footage itself, but from why a creator selects a particular image, how those images are structured, and how they are ultimately shaped into a coherent work.

Latest Developments in Dreamina AI and Seedance

A session from the Dreamina AI team introduced the latest Dreamina AI features, developments around Seedance, and the platform’s broader direction.

The Open Call also brought together works created with Dreamina AI and Seedance, offering a snapshot of the different ways creators are currently approaching generative AI filmmaking.

Beyond improvements in raw generation quality, AI video production is moving closer to professional workflows through capabilities such as multi-reference production, stronger consistency, and greater control over camera movement.

Going forward, comparing individual models in isolation will become less important than understanding how the entire production pipeline is designed — from concept development and reference preparation to generation, editing, music, and final exhibition.

Connecting with Tokyo’s AI Creative Community

The latter part of the event was dedicated to networking, creating opportunities to connect with creators and production professionals working across AI filmmaking, film, animation, design, and other creative fields.

Being able to discuss production backgrounds, technical experimentation, current projects, and creative challenges in person provides a different kind of value from encountering someone’s work online.

When creators connect not only around tools and technology, but around what they actually want to create with them, those conversations can become the starting point for entirely new forms of expression and collaboration.

Reflections from the Event

Three developments stood out in particular from the event.

First, AI-generated moving-image work is increasingly being created and experienced as work intended for large-screen presentation.

Generative AI video has rapidly spread through social platforms and desktop viewing environments. Once the work moves into a venue with a large screen and dedicated sound system, however, the demands placed on composition, detail, audiovisual synchronization, and the overall structure of the piece begin to change.

Second, as generative models become more capable, the importance of human decisions around structure, direction, editing, selection, and rejection becomes even greater.

The technical barrier to generating compelling imagery continues to fall, but the value of direction and editing required to transform that material into a complete work may actually be increasing.

Third, the conversation around AI filmmaking is beginning to expand beyond generation technology itself into production, finished works, IP, and creative communities.

AI is becoming more than a technology for automating individual production tasks. It is beginning to reshape the structure of the creative process itself.
